Pilates mat can provide a rather rigorous exercise program for most of us. The Magic Circle helps to spice up the class but it's use has a purpose and therefore is most effective when integrated with a known series of exercises.

Pilates mat workouts account for much of the work done in a Pilates
routine for the general public. It’s the most common way for a beginner to get involved into the
program, and at the same time, it’s one of the hardest parts of the
exercise to fully develop.
Pilates
exercises are useful in helping the body to become strengthened and
realigned, with increases in posture and balance occurring rapidly. In
the original Pilates program organized by Joseph Pilates years ago,
there are 44 different Pilates mat exercises.

When Joseph Pilates published his book 'Return to Life Through Contrology'
in 1945, he devised a specific system, technique and order of
exercises. Joseph Pilates taught a number of students who, after years
of training, went on to teach the Pilates method and open studios of
their own. Among these students were Bruce King, Carola Trier, Bob
Steed, Naja Corey, Kathy Grant, Ron Fletcher, Martha Graham, George
Balanchine and Eve Gentry. Two of the most well known students, who
went on to teach his method are Romana Kryzanowska and Ron Fletcher.

Can
you learn Pilates without a instructor? Many say no, and I would agree.
The skill and personal vision of the instructor will make a world of
difference—learning the positions and movements is relatively easy, but
if you're not using the proper technique as you move and assume
positions, you will not attain the benefits, and you could possibly
cause pain and/or injury.

Myofascial Release is a very effective hands-on
technique that provides sustained pressure into myofascial restrictions
to eliminate pain and restore motion. The theory of Myofascial Release
requires an understanding of the fascial system (or connective tissue).
The fascia is a specialized system of the body that has an appearance
similar to a spider's web or a sweater.

Actually, with every press of the upper body into the mat, and every lift of the torso in the air, we have the opportunity to build strength in the arms, particularly the triceps. The conscious use of the arms is clear in the following Mat exercises. But of course, we all know the arms are secondary elements, as the powerhouse is the real workhorse in each of these exercises.
